The state-owned power company PT Indonesia Power has set up a subsidiary that would focus on coal exploration business, according to company president Firdaus Akmal.
Firdaus was quoted by the Bisnis Indonesia daily as saying Wednesday that the subsidiary would help ensure the supply of coal to Indonesia Power, which needs around 12 million tons of coal per year.
He said that currently, coal supply to Indonesia Power comes from the state-owned coal miner PT Tambang Batubara Bukit Asam (60 percent), PT Adaro Indonesia (30%), and Berau Coal (10 percent).
But he said that sometimes the coal suppliers failed to fully supply the coal needs of Indonesia Power.
Firdaus said that the new coal subsidiary was expected to be able to supply around 2 million tons of coal per year Indonesia Power.(*)
