PT Indonesia Power (IP), a subsidiary of state-owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) stated that its coal consumption in 2016 will decrease to 11.5 million tons from an estimated 12.5 million tons this year.

Judi Winarko, Head of Primary Energy Division of PT Indonesia Power, told Petromindo.com on Wednesday that the reason behind the decrease in the coal consumption is because some of its coal fired power plants will be shut down for maintenance.

He did not specify which power plants will be shut down.

The firm gets coal from PT Bukit Asam (PTBA), Berau Coal, Adaro, Kideco, PT PLN Batubara etc. PTBA and Berau are the biggest suppliers, providing a combined 3.5 million tons per year for the firm. Most contracts with the firms expire in 2019.
