PT Indonesia Power, a subsidiary of state owned electricity company PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara, plans to replace 160 power generators currently installed at the company?s PLTGU Pemaron combined cycle power plant in Buleleng regency, Bali, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Friday.

Gusti Ngurah Agung, the general manager of Indonesia Power?s unit in Bali, said that the 160 generator sets, each with capacity of 5 megawatt, would be replaced with 32 generator sets with bigger capacity.

?In the future, the number of generators will be 32, not 160 like at present,? he said during a meeting with the vice regent of Bulelang, Nyoman Sutjidra. He, however, declined to unveil the investment needed for the replacement of the generators.

At present PLTGU Pemaron uses diesel fuel to power its generators, which is not only costly but also cause more pollution. The local legislators have recently threatened Indonesia Power to shut down the plant?s operations if it would not be able to reduce pollution and the noises. (*)
