Indonesia?s copper concentrates shipments dropped to 729.206,26 tons in January to July this year, from 949.477,09 in the same period in 2016, data from State Statistics shows. There were no shipments in February this year after the government introduced new mineral exports rules. The new rules issued on January 12, required miners including Freeport McMorran to change their ?contract of work? to ?special mining permits?, before resuming exports of semi-processed ore and concentrates.
After two years of exports stoppage, Indonesia?s nickel and bauxite ore shipments are trickling to the global markets. Miners have resumed overseas shipments of nickel and bauxite ore after the government allowed exports of t low-grade nickel, bauxite, and other mineral concentrates under certain conditions. The government banned exports of unprocessed ore in 2014.
