Indonesia, S. Korea sign MoU to build Kalimantan coal railway

Indonesia and South Korea signed on Monday an MoU to build railway infrastructure to transport coal from Kalimantan to shore.

 

The MoU was witnessed by Minister of Trade Mari Pangestu and visiting South Korean business mission.

 

Mari Pangestu did not say the signing parties from South Korean side.

 

Government is planning to build railway that will connect resource-rich inland Kalimantan to enable coal miners and other commodity producers such as palm oil to cheaply transport their products. A Number of foreign firms including Japan’s Itochu Corp., Nippon Koei Co Ltd and Chinese firms had expressed interest to participate in the project. (godang/bernard)
