Indonesia?s LNG export down in 2001

Monday, January 7 2002 - 07:04 AM WIB

State oil and gas firm Pertamina said on Monday that liquefied natural gas (LNG) export in 2001 failed to meet target due to gas production stoppage at ExxonMobil?s gas fields in Aceh in March last year.

?Pertamina only managed to export 24.06 million tons of LNG in 2001, lower than the target of 27.02 million tons,? said Pertamina?s downstream director Muchsin Bahar in a press conference Monday.

Indonesia is currently the world?s largest LNG producer, supplying for South Korea and Japan buyers form its LNG centers in Arun, Aceh and Bontang, East Kalimantan.

Muchsin expected that in 2002, Indonesia would be back on track to supply 27 million tons of LNG after ExxonMobil produced sufficient gas for Arun NGL to resume operation at normal capacity. (alex/godang)
