Indonesia secures one cargo of LNG from Oman

Oman has promised to provide Indonesia with one cargo of LNG to help solve the gas shortage now confronting Aceh-based fertilizer firm PT Pupuk Iskandar Muda.

Coordinating Minister of the Public Welfare Alwi Shihab said on Wednesday that the Oman government would ship the LNG to Indonesia by the end of this year.

He also said aside from Oman, the Qatar government had also indicated its willingness to help PIM, but it had thus far given no details as to the amount of LNG it was ready to ship to Indonesia as well as the time frame for the possible shipment.

PIM has been facing shortage of gas supplies over the past several years due to the decline in gas reserves in the province. American energy firm ExxonMobil Indonesia, the only gas supplier in the province, is now supplying most of its gas to LNG producer PT Arun NGL Co to meet the latter?s LNG export commitment.

Indonesia recently failed to buy one cargo of LNG from Nigeria as the country?s LNG producer finally decided to sell the commodity to a South Korean buyer. (Godang/dino)
