Indonesia seeks to extend LNG contract with Taiwan

Indonesia is seeking to extend an LNG contract with Taiwan?s Chinese Petroleum Company (CPC) that expire in several years.

Djoko Harsono, head of LNG marketing at upstream authority BP Migas, said Tuesday that his office would send a team to Taiwan to negotiate on the contract extension next year.

He did not provide details on the contract, but the government data says Indonesia has several existing contracts with CPC, including the one obliging Indonesia to supply the firm with 1.57 million tons of LNG per year until 2009. The LNG supplies are taken from the Badak LNG plant in Bontang, East Kalimantan.

In 2002, CPC imported 5.33 million tons of LNG, including 3.47 million tons from Indonesia, and the rest from Malaysia. (alex)
