Indonesia will temporarily assume the secretary generalship of OPEC after the oil cartel failed to agree on one of three candidates fielded here, AFP reported on late Thursday, agencies reported.
This information was revealed by Algerian Energy Minister Chakib Khelil.
Indonesia, which will in January take over the rotating presidency of the cartel, is likely to put one of the assistants to its energy minister in the post, a source close to the cartel said.
It was the second time that OPEC could not reach consensus on one of the candidates for secretary general fielded by Iran, Kuwait and Venezuela. (*)
