Indonesia to increase oil output by 80,000 barrels

Indonesia will increase its oil output by 80,000 barrels per day (bpd) to reach output target of 1.050 million bpd this year.

Chairman of oil and gas upstream regulator BP Migas Kardaya Warnika said in a hearing with the House of Representatives on Monday that he was optimistic the nation would reach the oil output target of 1.050 million bpd this year.

He said the national oil output in 2006 averaged 1,007,000 bpd in 2006, lower than the state budget?s target of 1.050 million bpd.

He said the additional oil output will come from existing and new oil fields owned by 12 contractors.

The 12 contractors include 4 contractors that will increase their output at existing fields, that is American firms ConocoPhilips, Chevron, state owned oil and gas company PT Pertamina and Bumi Siak Pusako-Pertamina joint venture. ConocoPhillips is set to increase output by 15,000 bpd from its offshore fields, while Chevron will add 25,000 bpd to its output from the northern part of Duri block. Pertamina E&P will increase its output at the Pondok Tengah field in Bekasi, West Java by 17,000 bpd, while the Pertamina-Bumi Siak Pusako will produce an additional 5,000 bpd from its Bene Bekasap field.

?Besides, there will be additional output from new fields which produce between 170 and 7,500 bpd,? Kardaya said.

American firm Amerada Hess will produce 7,500 bpd this year from its Ujung Pangkah (Madura) field , the biggest to produced by new fields throughout the year, while French firm Total E&P Indonesie will produce 4,680 bpd from its new fields Sisi and Nubi. National firm PT Energi Mega Persada will produce 2,229 bpd from its Sepanjang Island field, while Chevron will produce 1,098 bpd from its new field Telisa Kotabatak. Australian firm Santos will produce 1,027 bpd from Oyong new field.

Several new fields will also come on stream with output of less than 600 bpd, including Gondang (operated by Petrochina Tuban) which will produce 281 bpd, West Betara (Petrochina Jabung) 171 bpd, Seturian (Chevron) 177 bpd, Wakamuk (Petrochina) 406 bpd, Fariz (Medco E&P) 535 bpd, Tiang (Chevron) 510 bpd, Kaji Semoga (Medco E&P) 562 bpd.
