Indonesia to offer energy projects to China

The government of Indonesia will offer cooperation in some energy projects to China in Indonesia-China energy forum (ICEF) which will be held in Beijing at the end of this month, said a senior government official late Thursday after attending a meeting a delegate from China led by a director general from China?s state development planning commission in Jakarta.

According to director general of oil and gas at the ministry of energy and mineral resources Rachmat Soedibjo, cooperation in energy sector that will be offered to China includes oil and gas exploration activities in Indonesia and China, joint research on coal bed methane in Kalimantan, normal paraffin plant construction in Riau province, East Kalimantan to East Java gas pipeline development, power generating plant development and cooperation to develop underground coal mining in Ombilin in West Sumatra and several research and development cooperation.

Rachmat also said that during the meeting, Indonesia also gave additional information about Tangguh LNG project, which is currently shortlisted to supply 3 million tons of LNG per annum to the industrial province of Guangdong.

A delegation led by president Megawati Sukarnoputri is scheduled to leave for China in March 24 to attend the ICEF meeting and to try to lobby China to select Tangguh LNG project, which is operated by Anglo-American energy giant BP, as supplier to China. (alex/godang)
