Indonesia, US agree to cooperate in EOR and coal gasification

Indonesia and the United States have agreed to strengthen cooperation in various aspects of energy sector including research and development of renewable energy, climate change, enhanced oil recovery (EOR), carbon capture and storage (CCS), coal gasification, geothermal energy, marine energy and energy efficiency.

The cooperation agreement was signed during the third energy policy dialogue (EPD) held in Washington DC on July 28-30.

During the meeting, the Indonesian and US governments also agreed to cooperate in the use of gas methane in improving cost efficiency and exploration works as well as in the use of gas as clean energy and in the promotion of the role of the private sector in energy development and

As a follow-up to the cooperation agreement, both governments agreed to form a number of working groups which will further work out the agreement, involving energy experts from the two countries. The establishment of the working groups will be reported to their respective energy ministry.

During the meeting, the Indonesian delegation was led by Director General of Oil and Gas at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources Evita H. Legowo. The delegation members included senior officials from other related government agencies including BPMIGAS, BPH Migas, Indonesian Chamber of Commerce (Kadin) and National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas).

While the US delegation, led Dr. Phyllis Yoshida, Deputy Assistant Secretary for Asia, Europe and the Americas, Department of Energy (DoE), included representatives from DoE, Department of State (DoS), Department of Commerce (DoC), USTDA, USAID, USTR, Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the US embassy in Jakarta.
