Indonesia is considering acquiring a stake in a potash mine in Belarus as state fertilizer producer PT Pupuk Indonesia conducts due diligence to strengthen long term supplies of a key raw material for NPK fertilizer production, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto said on Tuesday.
Indonesia imports all of its potash requirements because it has no domestic reserves. Airlangga said upstream ownership would help mitigate supply chain risks and ensure raw material availability during geopolitical or trade disruptions, supporting national food security.
Airlangga also said bilateral trade between Indonesia and Belarus has reached about US$220 million and is expected to rise after the Indonesia Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) agreement is ratified. He said the government aims to increase bilateral trade and investment with Belarus to US$500 million in the near term.
