PT Indorama Synthetics plans to build a coal-fired power plant at its industrial complex in West Java to cope with the increase in the company's electricity demand, with investment of about US$60 million, Investor Daily reported on Saturday.

The company's director R. Chandra Safaran said the construction of the power plant would be financed with credits to be provided by International Finance Corporation (IFC).

He said that the power plant would be built for the company's own use. "The electricity supply from state electricity company PLN has been too expensive. More over, the supply from PLN also continues to decline," he said.

The construction of the power plant which will have a capacity of about 60 MW will be commenced in October this year. The plant which will use coal as its fuel is expected to start operation in 2006," he said. (*)
