Coal mining firm PT Indowana Bara Mining Coal, a subsidiary of IDX-listed PT Sekawan Intipratama Tbk, said it is seeking to develop a mine mouth coal-fired power plant project in Melak, West Kutai Regency, in East Kalimantan, where the company?s coal concession is located.

Sekawan said in a statement Monday that Indowana was looking to partner with subsidiary of state-owned electricity PT PLN in the power plant project with planned capacity of 2x100 MW.

It said that Indowana has an advantage in terms of the location of its coal mine in Melak to win the PLN planned mine mouth power plant project. It added that the mine mouth power plant project will help ensure market for the company?s coal production.

PLN plans to procure about 7,000 MW of mine mouth power plant projects in Kalimantan and Sumatra over the next 10-year period through 2026. Some of the projects will be given to its subsidiaries which can then partner with coal miners.

Indowana owns a 5,000-ha coal concession in West Kutai Regency, with coal resources estimated at 533.31 million tons, and reserves estimated at 288.1 million tons. IDX-listed PT Sekawan Intipratama Tbk owns 90 percent of Indowana, PT Mahaputra Bara Mulia holds 9 percent interest, and PT Baratama Indo Nusa Borneo holds the remaining 1 percent.
