State-owned electricity company PT perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN) has admitted that the construction of the Indramayu coal-fired power plant in West Java has been delayed due to financial problems.

Moch Agung Nugroho, PLN?s construction director, said in Jakarta on Monday that the construction of the power plant which would have three units each with a capacity of 330 megawatt (MW) had been temporarily halted due to a delay in the disbursement of the funding from Bank of China.

He said that the financial problem would likely delay the operation of the power plant, one of several major coal-fired power plants currently being built as part of the PLN?s Phase One fast track program to provide additional power supplies of 10,000 MW.

According to the initial schedule, the first unit of the Indramayu power plant will begin operation in September, the second unit in December this year and the third unit in March 2010.

Agung said that the financial difficulty would likely push back the operation of the second unit to January or February, and the third unit to April or May, in 2010.

He, however, said that the other power plants such as the Labuan coal-fired power plant in Banten, which will have two units each with a capacity of 300 MW and Rembang coal-fired power plant in Central Java which will have two units each with a capacity of 315 MW, will operate as initially planned.

According to the existing schedules, the first unit of Labuan power plant will begin operation in September and the second unit in December, this year. The first unit of Rembang power plant will also start operation in September and the second unit in December, this year. (godang)
