Industry Ministry speeds up halal industry zones development

The Ministry of Industry said it will accelerate the development of halal industrial zones in the country, either as part or whole part of the industrial zone.

The halal industrial zone is designed to develop industries that produced halal products.

Ignatius Warsito, Director for Industrial Zone at the Directorate General of Resilience, Regional and Industrial Access (KPAII) at the Industry Ministry, said the government is currently directing four industrial zones to become halal industry areas in Indonesia.

The four industrial zones are Batamindo Industrial Estate, Bintan Industrial Park, Jakarta Industrial Estate Pulogadung and Modern Cikande Industrial Estate. The development of these halal industrial zone is part of the government’s drive to support the implementation of mandatory halal certification on Oct. 17, 2019.

“The four (industrial zones) have submitted request to the Industry Ministry to develop halal industry. So far, only Modern Cikande that has launched (halal industry),” Warsito said in a statement on Wednesday (12/06).

He said Batamdo Industrial Park is planning to develop halal zone on 17 hectares of land out of total 320 hectares of industrial park area. Bintan Industrial Estate plans to develop halal industrial area on 100 hectares of land out of total 320 hectares and Modern Cikande plans to develop halal industry on 500 hectares of land.

Meanwhile, Jakarta Industrial Estate Pulogadung is planning to develop halal zone for fashion, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, food, laboratorium as well as halal center. Warsito said he is optimistic that many companies will be interested to develop manufacturers and plants within these special purpose industrial zones in line with the trend of the halal industry in the country.

He said these industrial zones will also be supported by related agencies and institutions such as halal certification office, halal laboratory, logistics and others.

The Industry Ministry will play a part in determining product standardization, providing incentives as well as assisting companies in conducting promotions as well as other technical cooperation.
