Japanese firm INPEX CORPORATION announced on Monday that through its affiliated company INPEX Masela Ltd., it received an environmental permit from the Government of Indonesia based on the Environmental and Social Impact Assessment of the Abadi LNG Project which is currently being prepared for development utilizing the Floating LNG (FLNG) concept.
The Environmental and Social Impact Assessment is known locally as AMDAL (Analisis Mengenai Dampak Lingkungan).
Abadi field located in the Masela block, Arafura Sea is one of the major gas fields discovered in eastern Indonesia in 2000. The subsequent six appraisal wells and the reservoir study results confirmed sufficient gas reserves for LNG development. In December 2010, the plan of development (POD) was approved by government that the Abadi gas field would be developed in phases and that a Floating LNG (FLNG) plant would be constructed and utilized for an annual production of 2.5 million tons for the first phase development.
The Masela block (Abadi LNG Project) is operated by INPEX Masela with a 65 percent participating interest, while Shell Upstream Overseas Services (I) Limited, a subsidiary of Royal Dutch Shell plc, holds a 30 percent participating interest.
