Inpex receives letter on Masela decision from government

Japanese firm Inpex Corporation announced on Monday that it has received a notification from Indonesian government authorities instructing to re-propose a plan of development based on onshore LNG for the Abadi LNG Project within Masela block in Maluku province.

The notification is in response to the revised plan of development (Revised POD) submitted to Indonesian government authorities on Sept. 3, 2015 envisioning the adoption of a Floating LNG (FLNG) plant with an annual LNG processing capacity of 7.5 million tons.

The company said it will carefully examine the contents of the notification, and intends to work closely with the Indonesian government authorities aiming for the early start-up of development.

Going forward, INPEX will openly disclose in a timely manner any developments on this subject.

Earlier, President Joko Widodo announced that he has decided the contractors of Masela should build an onshore LNG plant for the Masela block, rather than a floating LNG plant as proposed by the contractors.

The block is 65 percent owned by Inpex (operator) and 35 percent by Royal Dutch Shell.
