Inpex says preparation for Abadi LNG project underway

Japanese oil and gas company Inpex Corporation said the preparation for the development of the large-scale Abadi LNG project in Masela Block is still on-going. It also said it will benefit from partnering with Shell in developing the project.
It said the planning to utilize FLNG (floating liquified natural gas) and considering other technical characteristics of the Abadi LNG project was the main reason the company selected Shell as the strategic partner for the development of the project.
?Participating in the Prelude FLNG project will enhance Inpex?s FLNG experience, and will help in timely delivery of the Abadi LNG project,? Inpex said in a media statement.
Inpex has been participating in several natural gas development and production projects, including LNG projects, throughout the world. These include the development of the large-scale Ichthys LNG Project in Australia, for which INPEX made the Final Investment Decision in January 2012.
In addition to this, Inpex participates in Offshore Mahakam, Bayu-Undan (JPDA), Tangguh LNG project and Canadian shale gas projects.
?Participating in the Prelude FLNG project will enhance Inpex?s natural gas business, which leads to meeting growing demand of natural gas, an environmentally friendly fuel while optimizing Inpex?s overall asset portfolio,? it said.
Inpex said early this month that it will conduct tender for front-end engineering and design (FEED) for a floating liquefied natural gas (FLNG) plant to be deployed in Abadi field within Masela Block in Arafura Sea.
FEED for the floating processing plant is separate from FEED for Subsea, Umbilicals, Risers and Flowlines (SURF), which is still on-going. Inpex is expected to announce the FEEDs in second semester this year.
Participants of the SURF tender include Chiyoda Corp., Technip, Saipem, IKPT-Petrofac consortium, Tripatra Engineering, Malaysian firm EJ Joint Venture, Indoturbine and JGC have submitted their bids, the upstream authority BPMIGAS said earlier.
