Inpex seeking to confirm Masela decision

Japanese firm Inpex Corp. announced on Thursday that it is waiting for official notification from the government about President Joko Widodo?s decision on the Masela project.

?Following media reports on March 23, 2016 suggesting Indonesian President Joko Widodo?s intention to pursue an onshore-based LNG development scheme for the Abadi as Field, INPEX CORPORATION (INPEX) announced today (Thursday) that it is currently in the process of confirming the facts, and will give due consideration to the implementation of the Abadi LNG Project upon receiving official notification on the subject from Indonesian authorities,? the firm said.

The Abadi LNG project is a large-scale liquefied natural gas (LNG) project Inpex as operator is preparing for development in the Abadi gas field in the Masela block, the Arafura Sea through its subsidiary Inpex Masela, Ltd, the firm said.

?Going forward, INPEX will openly disclose in a timely manner any developments on this subject as appropriate,? the firm added.

On Wednesday, the President announced that he had made a decision that the LNG plant planned for the Masela block should be built onshore, rather than floating as proposed by Inpex and its partner, Royal Dutch Shell.
