INPEX to drill exploration well late 2015

Japan?s oil and gas firm Inpex Corporation (INPEX) through its subsidiary Inpex Babar Selaru, Ltd will start drilling exploration wells in the Babar Selaru Block, offshore Maluku Province in late 2015 or early 2016.

Vice President Corporate Services at INPEX Nico Muhyiddin told Petromindo.com that now the firm is carrying out a 3D seismic acquisition in the block, which is expected to be completed in the end of this year or early 2015.

?Then, if the result is good, we will proceed with the preparation of drilling,? he added.

The block is located 1,400km southwest of Saumlaki city in the Tanimbar Islands and covers 8,170km square with a water depth ranging from 200m to 2,000m. It is located 60km northwest of the Abadi gas field in the Masela block, also controlled and operated by the Japanese firm.

INPEX has an 85 percent participating interest in the block with PT Pertamina Hulu Energi Babar Selaru, a subsidiary of state oil and gas firm PT Pertamina (Persero), holds the balance.
