Inpex to run drilling campaign of four wells in Masela

Inpex Masela Ltd., a subsidiary of Inpex Corporation, will undertake further development of the FLNG project offshore Arafura Sea by conducting drillings of three delineation wells in Abadi field, and one exploration well in the Berkat field in June 2013.
"We will conduct a drilling campaign of three delineation wells in the Abadi field and an exploration well in the Berkat field starting June this year until the second quarter of next year,? said Nico Muhyiddin, Inpex Vice President for Corporate Strategy, during a meeting between SKK Migas and Inpex directors in Jakarta on Wednesday, 20th March 2013.
The Abadi field and the Berkat field are in the Masela Block located in Arafura Sea, at the eastern part of Indonesia.
Nico said that the objective of the drilling is to increase Abadi proven reserve and to explore Berkat for potential new reserve. Moreover, he continued, the Abadi field development is also very important to feed the FLNG, which will later provide gas supply to meet the local need and that of Japan.
The Abadi field development uses the Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG) technology as shown in the SURF FEED work launched on November 2012 and the FLNG FEED work launched on January 2013.
Nico pointed out that the FLNG uses an integration of two technologies, namely LNG Plant and Oil FPSO (Floating Production Storage Offshore). ?The LNG production capacity is 2,5 MTPA. The method of LNG Offloading is side by side and condensate offloading method is tandem with capacity 8.400 BOPD of condensate. The operational period of the FLNG is 30 years,? explained Nico.
Nico added the FLNG project will cost US$549 million. Currently, the drilling FEED has been secured, and the company is just waiting for the drilling of four wells in the Abadi field and the Berkat field on January 2013.
"We therefore expect the FLNG FEED work starting in 1Q 2013 and the SURF FEED starting in 4Q 2012 are completed later this year or early next year," Nico said, adding that the AMDAL licensing has been started since 2012, while the ESIA (Enviromenal & Social Impact Assessment) is still not approved by SKK Migas.
Abadi LNG project is operated by Inpex Masela with a 60 percent participating interest, while Shell holds a 30 percent participating interest, and Energi Mega Persada holds the remaining 10 percent participating interest.
