Inpex to start Abadi field FEED works in 1H12, AMDAL ongoing

Japan?s giant oil and gas company Inpex Corporation said it plans to start the front end engineering and design (FEED) for Abadi field in Masela Block in Arafura Sea in the first half of 2012.

Inpex announced tender for FEED and Post FEED for Masela floating LNG (FLNG) project in May this year, however it has yet to announce the winner.

The preparations for FEED works and environmental & social impact assessment process (AMDAL) are ongoing, it said.

Inpex holds 60 percent interest in the Masela Block after transferring 30 percent interest to Shell in July. The finalization of the transfer of the interest is pending the approval of the Indonesian government. The remaining 10 percent working interest is owned by listed PT Energi Mega Persada Tbk.

Inpex, the operator of the Masela, block holds 20 year development/production contract until 2028. The government approved the plan of development (POD-1) for the project in December 2010.

The first phase of the project will include the installation of a floating LNG (FLNG) in the Abadi field.

The field is expected to produce 2.5 million metric tonnes of gas per year and 8,400 barrels of oil per day (bopd) and is expected to come on stream in 2018. (romel/roffie)
