IP needs additional coal supply of six million tons next year

PT. Indonesia Power (IP), a subsidiary of state electricity firm PLN, will need additional coal supply of up to six million tons to meet the growing coal requirement of its power plants next year.
Indonesia Power?s President Director Tony Agus Mulyantono said in Jakarta on Tuesday that the coal needs of the company?s power plants would increase by at least six million tons to 19 million tons in 2010 due the operation of three new coal-fired power plants during the year.
"At present, the coal use is between 35,000 tons and 40.000 tons a day or equivalent to about 13 million tons a year,? he said.
The three new power plants which will commence their operation next year include Labuan power plant in Banten with a capacity of 2 x 300 megawatt (MW), Pelabuhan Ratu power plant in West Java with a capacity of 2 x 300 MW and the 600-MW Unit 8 of the Suralaya power plant in Banten. (*)
