IPA deeply concerned with the development of the Bioremediation case

The Indonesian Petroleum Association (IPA) is deeply concerned with the development of the Bioremediation case that has impacted member firm PT Chevron Pacific Indonesia and which has resulted in the detention of their employees.

As reported earlier, the Attorney General?s Office (AGO) has arrested four employees of CPI on charges of being implicated in the corruption case related to the bioremediation project on former exploration areas.

IPA said in a media statement that the criminalization of PSC operations will set a new precedent with wide-ranging consequences for the future of the oil and gas industry here.

As the PSC is a business contract, the IPA considers that any disputes arising from PSC project implementation should be settled through a civil law principle, and not a criminal law principle, as laid down in the PSC.

The IPA hopes that the detained employees will have their detention suspended while the investigation continues.
