PT IPC Terminal Petikemas, part of the state port operator Pelindo Group, has expanded its cargo handling infrastructure with the addition of a new Post Panamax quay container crane to support rising logistics flows and container traffic in southern Sumatra.
The company said the new quay container crane (QCC) arrived at Panjang Port in Lampung aboard the Chinese vessel MV Zheng Hua 37 as part of Pelindo Terminal Petikemas’ investment program to strengthen operational capacity and improve loading and unloading productivity.
With the addition of the new crane, IPC TPK Area Panjang now operates a total of four QCC units to support container and vessel handling activities at the terminal.
Manager of IPC TPK Area Panjang Anang Subagyono said the investment was made in response to strong growth in container throughput, which increased by around 24% in 2025.

The terminal recorded container traffic of 128,675 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) last year, compared with 103,700 TEUs in 2024, according to the company.
“The addition of the Post Panamax QCC is a strategic step to improve service capacity and terminal productivity,” Anang said in a statement.
“We want to ensure IPC TPK Panjang is able to meet customer demand as logistics activities and container flows continue to increase in southern Sumatra,” he added.
The company said the additional infrastructure is expected to strengthen the competitiveness of Panjang Port while supporting the national logistics supply chain in Lampung and surrounding regions.
Technically, the Post Panamax crane has an outreach capability of 45 meters and can handle vessels carrying containers stacked across 16 to 17 rows, enabling the port to serve larger container ships more efficiently.
Following the arrival of MV Zheng Hua 37, technical teams will conduct a rolling-off process to transfer the crane onto the terminal dock before installation, commissioning tests and integration with the terminal operating system are completed.
