IPCM handles first Panamax container vessel at Patimban Port

PT Jasa Armada Indonesia Tbk (IDX: IPCM), a marine services unit of state port operator Pelindo, said it had handled the first berthing of a Panamax-sized container vessel at Indonesia's Patimban Port, marking a milestone in the port's expansion as an international shipping hub.

The company said on Tuesday it provided pilotage and towing services for the 295-metre-long MSC BREMERHAVEN V, which berthed at the West Java port on Aug. 3.

Four tugboats assisted the vessel during the operation, which IPCM said was carried out in accordance with maritime safety standards.

"The successful handling of the Panamax vessel MSC BREMERHAVEN V reflects IPCM's operational readiness to support Patimban Port's growing role as a national logistics hub," IPCM President Director Shanti Puruhita said in a statement.

Patimban Port, which the Indonesian government is developing to ease congestion at Tanjung Priok Port in Jakarta and strengthen the country's logistics network, is expected to receive regular international container services.

According to IPCM, the port is expected to accommodate weekly calls by container vessels ranging from Handymax and Supramax classes to Panamax ships exceeding 250 metres in length. It is projected to handle three to four Panamax vessel calls each month.

The increase in international shipping traffic is expected to boost demand for marine support services, particularly pilotage and towing, IPCM's core businesses.

The company said it would continue strengthening its operational capabilities by improving workforce competency, enhancing fleet reliability and maintaining international safety and service standards to support the anticipated increase in vessel traffic at Patimban.
