Some 30 men of the Moni tribe in Irian Jaya came to the headquarters of the Mimika regency legislative council to ask lawmakers to help resolve dispute with other tribes over land located at the gold mining giant Freeport site in the Grasberg area.

The tribesmen were greeted by council speaker Andreas Anggaibak and several other senior legislators.

The local Cendrawasih Post daily reported Friday that other tribes including the Amungme tribe also have claimed ownership over the parcel of land.

The case has been going on for a year now.(*)
