Italian investors have probed into the possibility of building a coal processing center on Bangka Island off southeastern Sumatra, local daily Bangka Post reported Monday.

Coal from the plant would be for exports, Bangka regent Eko Maulana was quoted as saying over the weekend.

The paper however did not mention the name of the Italian investors.

Maulana said the investors had conducted observation on Mentok district in Bangka, and that the coal terminal could be located in the district if the investors materialized their plan. Bangka, part of Babel province, is the country?s tin producing center.

Geographically, Mentok could very well function as a coal export center, Maluana said.

Maulana and executives of the Italian investors visited Mentok over the weekend.(*)
