Coal mining company PT Nusantara Berau Coal, a subsidiary of PT Ithaca Resources, is currently making final preparations to open up a new pit at its coal concession in Berau Regency, North Kalimantan.

Liberty Simanjuntak, Corporate Secretary of Ithaca Resources told Petromindo.com recently that the company is also currently constructing hauling road to the new pit.

"Hopefully, by next year we?ll be ready to produce coal from the new pit," he said, adding that the forestry license (IPPKH) for the new 1,200 hectares pit has been obtained.

Nusantara Berau operates a 2,000-ha concession in Berau. Liberty said that the company is on track to meet a 2 million-ton coal output target this year. In the first semester of 2014, the company produced about 1 million tons. "For next year, our target will be the same as this year. But if price recovers, we might revise the target," he said.
