Central Kalimantan Governor Teras Narang asked major Japanese trading and investment company Itochu Corp. to convey progress report on the construction of coal railway in the region by the end of this month, Investor Daily reported on Friday.
The progress report should also include financing scheme for the project, he said.
"If there is no progress report from Itochu, we shall take the second option, that is the financing scheme of the project will be included in the bluebook of the National Development Planning Board," he said on Thursday in the provincial capital of Palangkaraya.
Teras said that a consortium of British and Irish companies also eyed the project. “There is still a chance for the consortium to work on the project,” he went on.
In April, Itochu and the Central Kalimantan administration signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the construction of the railway that will carry coal from the porvince's hinterland to seaports. (*)
