J-Power sees steady thermal coal import demand

Japanese major power producer J-Power sees steady coal import from overseas, including from Indonesia, the company?s official told Prtromindo.Com last week.

The official said that 2010 fiscal year, which ended in March 2011, J-Power will consume around 20-21 million tonnes of thermal coal to generate its 8,400 MW thermal power plants in Japan.

For next 2011 fiscal year, the company is expecting to consume in the same figure, the official said.

Around 50 percent of the coal is sourced from Australia and another 30 percent is coming from Indonesia and the remaining is coming from South Africa, the official said.

The official did not give the name of coal suppliers. (denny)
