The Jakabaring gas-fired power plant in South Sumatra, dubbed as the first power plant in the country fueled by compressed natural gas (CNG), is scheduled to be officially launched on Monday by the Governor of South Sumatra Alex Noerdin.

Head of the Fuel and Gas Division at state-owned electricity firm PT Perusahaan Listrik Negara (PLN), Suryadi Mardjoeki told Petromindo.com Friday that the power plant has already supplied 50 MW into the South Sumatra electricity system.

He added that the CNG fueled power plant would help in the PLN?s efforts to reduce the use of costlier diesel fuel.
