Jakarta administration, BPPT plan waste power project

The Jakarta provincial administration is teaming up with the Agency for Assessment and Application of Technology (BPPT) to develop a 400 kW waste-based power plant in the latter part of next year.
BPPT Chairman Unggul Priyanto was quoted by news portal detik.com as saying on Wednesday that this will be a pilot project that if successful could be replicated in other cities in the country.
He said that total investment for the proposed project is around Rp 900 billion. He did not provide further details.
Meanwhile, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said that the waste-based power plant will help resolve the city?s waste problem which amounts to around 7,000 tons per day.
Petromindo.com reported last week that PT Jakarta Propertindo (Jakpro), a company owned by the Jakarta Provincial administration, will team up with Finland?s Fortum Power and Heat Oy to develop a 35 MW waste-based power plant in Sunter, North Jakarta, at an estimated investment of US$250 million. The power plant, which will have a capacity to process 2,000-2,200 tons of waster per day, is targeted to be in operation within the next two years. (*)
