The Jakarta provincial government and Banten provincial government have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on a study of the potential development of the East–West Phase 2 Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) line connecting Kembangan and Balaraja.

The MoU signing was witnessed on Wednesday by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung and Banten Governor Andra Soni at Jakarta City Hall.

Pramono said the agreement covers potential development of the MRT East–West corridor on the Kembangan–Balaraja route between PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) and property developers located along the proposed alignment.

The study is expected to assess opportunities to expand public transport coverage, strengthen agglomeration-based transport systems, and improve inter-regional connectivity between Jakarta and Banten.

Pramono said the East–West MRT corridor would complement existing and planned North–South MRT lines, creating a more integrated transport network across the metropolitan area.

Andra Soni said Banten welcomed Jakarta’s initiative to involve the province in cross-regional mass transit development and expressed hope that the MRT system could eventually serve communities in Banten.

The MoU was signed by PT MRT Jakarta President Director Tuhiyat together with several developers.

Jakarta’s provincial government said MRT Jakarta recorded 46.5 million passenger trips in 2025 and is targeting 50 million passengers in 2026.
