The Central Jakarta district court has rejected the demand filed by 19 ex-ExxonMobil workers? to get their pension benefits worth about Rp 2.32 billion from the oil giant, Bisnis Indonesia reported on Tuesday.

In its verdict, the court said that the demand could not be accepted because ExxonMobil and its pension fund Dapekami had proved that they had transferred the pension benefits of the 19 workers who retired between July 1994 and 1996.

"The proof provided by the defendant is valid because none of existing witnesses could deny it," the presiding judge I Ketut Gde said in the verdict.

According to the plaintiff, the value of the pension benefits which had not been paid by ExxonMobil and Dapekami reached Rp 2.35 billion. If the funds are invested in bank deposits with three percent interest rate, the total amount could reach Rp 5.73 billion up to March 2002. (*)
