The Jakarta Futures Trading Bourse (BBJ) is exploring the possibility of including coal in its trading board to give investors more contract options in taking the advantage of the bourse’s future trading contracts, Investor Daily reported on Monday.
BBJ’s director Hasan Zein said in Jakarta last week that the bourse’s management had met with the association of Indonesian coal producers and potential investors to discuss the plan.
He, however, said that the bourse would be very selective in launching new products to ensure that any commodities traded through the bourse would have a good liquidity.
The bourse has launched at least 40 contracts options since its official opening in 2000. But due to the lack of liquidity, 13 of them including Crude Palm Oil (CPO) and coffee (robusta) had been dropped from the trading list
Trading volume at the futures trading bourse rose by 277.9 percent to 335,700 lots in 2003 from 20,800 lots in 2002. (*)
