Jakarta Governor Fauzi Bowo said that the worst electricity crisis encountering the city has forced the city government to expedite the feasibility study (FS) on the project. ?The FS on the project should be completed in this year, so in the next two years the city will get a new electricity supply? he said.
The project costing around Rp 3-4 trillion (1US$=9,126) would be offered to the private firms through a tender because the city government could only provides funds for initial study, he added.
According to Fauzi Bowo, supply from the power plant would be higher than the need of local communities in Seribu island, estimated at 30 MW, so that the excess of the production could be supplied to Jakarta through undersea piping system.
In October 2006, the Jakarta administration, state power firm PLN and state gas company PGN agreed on a MOU to cooperate in the power plant project.
PGN is expected to provide gas supply of up to one billion cubic feet per day through the South Sumatra-West Java (SSWJ) gas pipeline. (*)
