Jakarta team inspects illegal mining activities in Jambi

A team comprising of senior officials from the Ministry of Mines and Energy, and the National Police Office will inspect illegal mining activities in Bungo regency, Jambi following a massive anti-illegal mining operation conducted by the local police recently in the area.

A source at the local mining office said in Jambi on Thursday that the team would evaluate the result of the operation which had cause some controversies as many alleged illegal miners claimed that they had obtained permits to carry out their mining operations, Sumatera Express reported.

The local police chief Djoko Turochman said that the team would meet him before conducting their field inspection in the illegal mining area.

During the anti-illegal mining raid, the police had seized a number of mining equipment from the miners, who claimed the seizure of their equipment as illegal because they operated with proper permits. (*)
