Jambi plans to build coal railway

Jambi province is planning to build a coal railway that would connect producing areas to the the port, Governor Zulkifli Nurdin was quoted by Koran Tempo as saying.

The railway track would connect regencies of Batanghari, Muaro Jambi, Jambi and Tanjung Jabung Timur.

The railway track would also be used to transport other commodities, Nurdin said.

The province would team up to build the railway with South Korean firm PT.Karya Bumi Baratama which has 18,000 hectares coal mine concession in Jambi.

Jambi province is rich in coal. However, lack of transportation infrastructures have constrained producers from sending their coal to the market. (*)
