Jambi pledges to ease regulations to lure mine investors

The provincial administration of Jambi has pledged to ease regulations and provided some incentive to lure investors to develop the province's mineral resources.

Haroen Sa'ad, the spokesman for the province, said in Jambi on Wednesday that regulations which were considered too strict and discourage investors would be replaced.

"Jambi will ease the procedure in obtaining investment permits and provide incentives to investors," he was quoted as saying by Antara news agency.

Jambi, located in the central part of Sumatera, is rich in mineral resources such as oil, gas, gold, coal and copper but most of them remain untapped due to lack of interest from investors.

According to the local mining office, several investors have been involved in oil and coal production but the number is still limited. (*)
