Crude oil production produced by state owned oil and gas company Pertamina and its production sharing contractors in Jambi province has increased sharply in the past several years to 40,000 per barrel per day, Palembang Post reported on Monday.

"In order to increase the crude oil production, the provincial administration will further lure foreign investors to develop the untapped oil and gas reserves in the province," Jambi Governor Zulkifli Nurdin said on Sunday.

The governor said that as gas deposits as surveyed by the Oil and Gas Institute (Lemigas) is much larger than that of oil, the future development of the oil and gas sector in the province should be emphasized on gas.

Zulkifli said that oil and gas resources would be developed into the main source of the province?s income in the future after plantations, fishery, agriculture and services. In order to create more conducive business climate to investors, the provincial authority would further improve the security condition in the province, he added.

He warned that without the participation of the people, it would be difficult to maintain such conducive situation. According to him, many foreign investors, particularly from Malaysia have expressed keen interest to invest in oil, gas and plantations sectors in the province in cooperation with local companies.
