Japan, Indonesia to promote energy cooperation in Asia

Japan and Indonesia on Tuesday agreed to promote energy cooperation between Japan, South Korea, China and the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations, including Indonesia, Jiji Press reported Tuesday.

The agreement came at a meeting here between Japan's Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Takeo Hiranuma and visiting Indonesian Minister of Energy, and Mineral Resources Purnomo Yusgiantoro.

Specifically, Japan and Indonesia will call for cooperation among the 13 countries in building up oil reserves and exchanging information on global oil markets, according to sources with access to the meeting.

On bilateral energy relations between Japan and Indonesia, Purunomo expressed hopes that Japanese power and gas firms would continue to buy LNG from Indonesia, the sources said.(*)
