Japan offers help to develop coal waste in Kalimantan

A business delegation from Japan has offered the East Kalimantan provincial administration their assistance to develop coal waste into another form of energy source, Kaltim Post reported on Friday.
The offer was made during their meeting with East Kalimatan’s top government officials including Deputy Governor Yurnalis Ngayoh in Samarinda on Thursday. In the meeting, the delegation comprising of representatives from major Japanese companies, Japan Coal Energy Center (JCOAL), Sojitz and Kusiro Mining.
According to Endo, a representative of JCOAL, the coal sludge (waste) found in many parts of Mahakam river could be used for steam power plants after being processed with high technology.
The processing of the coal sludge would not only provide more energy for the power plants but also would help the government’s effort in its creating healthy and pollution free environment, he said. (*)
