Japan?s IHI coal gasification pilot project to go commercial in 2017

The coal gasification pilot project in Cikampek, West Java, which is being developed by Japan's engineering giant IHI Corp. in partnership with fertilizer firm PT Pupuk Kujang Cikampek (PKC), is projected to achieve commercial operation date in 2017, according to the Ministry of Industry.
"The IHI?s pilot project now has a coal intake capacity of 50 tons per day. The development will continue until 2017 when it is expected to start commercial operation with a coal intake capacity of 1,000-1500 tons per day,? the ministry?s Director of Basic Chemicals Muhammad Khayam told Petromindo.com, adding that the coal is supplied from South Sumatra.
Khayam hopes that the coal gasification plant will be able to meet the syngas needs of state owned fertilizer firm PT Pupuk Kujang for urea production.
