Amidst trend in the US and Europe where new coal and related projects are being ditched, Japan promises it would continue to provide financing for the development of coal power plants in Indonesia.
?I think US will certainly stop building and financing new coal based power plant both in domestic and abroad, but we won?t be like that,? said Katsuhisa Shimakura, head of Japanese delegation at the Indonesia-Japan Coal Policy Dialogue on Wednesday.
Shimakura said Japan?s financial institutions will keep eyeing on Indonesia coal power plant prospects despite the growing distaste from westerns to finance them. ?JBIC and other Japanese financial institutions from Japan will keep supporting Indonesia coal fired power plant development,? he added.
Shimakura, however, expected the Indonesian government to back up Japan?s commitment on financing the sector.
