State electricity company PLN has planned to ask Japanese investors doing business in Indonesia to finance its program of increasing the capacity of two power plants in West Java, Suara Pembaruan daily reported on Tuesday.
PLN president Eddie Widiono told Suara Pembaruan on Monday with the Japanese investors? participation PLN alone could allocate only US$600 million for the projects. Eddie however did not mention the total amount required.
The projects were the Tambak Lorok steam-powered plant and the Muara Tawar gas-powered facility. If increased, their combined capacity could reach 3,000 megawatts, according to Eddie.
Eddie further said raising the capacity of the plants would enable PLN to cut power supply from East Java. So far, West Java?s electricity supply has mostly come from East Java.
Meanwhile, 98 percent of Japanese investors in Indonesia were doing business in West Java, Eddie said. (*)
