Japanese investors eyes South Sumatra power project

Four Japanese companies have expressed their keen interest to build a minemouth 600-MW steam power plant in the Ilir district of the Musirawas regency, South Sumatra, Kompas reported on Thursday.

Representative of the four Japanese companies, Teddy Setiawan, met South Sumatra?s deputy governor Thobrani HS and other senior officials in Palembang on Wednesday to discuss the possible Japanese involvement in the construction of the coal-mouth power plant.

Teddy who is also the president director of PT Tri Aryani said that the four Japanese companies included Kobe Steel Ltd, Nippon Koaei, Nisso Iwai Corporation and Babcock Hitachi. The cost of the power plant is estimated to reach US$1,000 per kilowatt. (*)
