State water resources company Perum Jasa Tirta I (PJT I) has been assigned responsibility for managing four additional strategic river basins in Sulawesi and Bali under Presidential Decree No. 9 of 2026, expanding its operational footprint beyond its existing areas.

The newly assigned river basins are Parigi-Poso in Central Sulawesi, Pompengan-Larona, Saddang, both in South Sulawesi and Bali-Penida.

The expansion covers several major water infrastructure assets, including lakes, dams, weirs and irrigation systems. In the Parigi-Poso basin, PJT I will oversee water resources that include Lake Poso and the Sausu Atas Weir, which supplies irrigation to about 7,766 hectares of farmland.

The Pompengan-Larona basin includes the Matano, Towuti and Mahalona lakes, as well as the Batu Besi, Balambano and Karebbe dams. The region is also home to several hydropower facilities that support industrial and electricity activities.

In the Saddang basin, PJT I will manage water resources across 24 watersheds covering parts of South and West Sulawesi, while the Bali-Penida basin includes seven dams, 22 reservoirs and 122 centrally managed weir structures.

The expanded mandate forms part of the government's efforts to strengthen management of water resources and related infrastructure that support irrigation, power generation and water supply across the four regions.
